STRAWBERRY FIELD

Feature-length documentary

In development

Description

A documentary work in development, driven by an independent perspective on memory, territories, and individual destinies.

Synopsis

The Sidovych family lives in a Ukrainian village near the front lines. They continue to love, work, and raise their children while the war turns their surroundings into ruins. Without electricity, water, and safety, they prepare food under a tin roof vibrating from airstrikes and teach their children to dance.

As the war draws closer, the family dreams of planting a strawberry field near their home.

Since the start of the invasion, Vitalii, the father, lost his job as a veterinarian. He now survives through small-scale farming, growing potatoes and tomatoes that he sells in town.

The process is arduous: traveling on the local bus with crates of vegetables, crossing areas under bombardment, selling small quantities at a time, returning home with barely enough money to support the family for a single day.

The children work alongside their parents, gardening in the fields. Surrounded by explosions and missiles streaking across the sky above their home almost daily, the Sidovych family develops creative ways to protect their children from trauma.

They invent magical explanations for the lack of electricity and running water while nurturing a collective dream: one day, they will have a field filled with strawberries. This field will bring them happiness, but also an income they can live on.
